I am frightened by my thoughts

Unpleasant thoughts, ideas and images that frighten you can cause stress, anxiety and worry, but help from experts can help you manage them.

If they are not an emergency there are some self-help steps you can take you help you cope and manage them.

What to do

It might be helpful to discuss your negative thoughts with your GP. Some people are embarrassed or afraid to do so but your GP is there to help.

They may refer you to specialist mental health services. Alternatively, depending on you may be able to refer yourself to TALKWORKS. However, TALKWORKS is not able to offer treatment for all mental health conditions and is not a crisis response service. Before making an online self-referral, please check if TALKWORKS is able to help you.

If you are in crisis call  111  and select the mental health option or visit  urgent help  for more information.
